If I’m Only Dreaming - lyrics

I met a girl just the other day
She said, she was just passing through this way
She asked, for directions and then gave me a wink
And her crooked little smile caused me to stop and think
Then in a casual, off-handed way
I asked, what she was doing a little later that day
Could I meet her for a drink… say at quarter past eight?
She tossed her hair and said, “OK, You’ve got a date”

My mind was spinning, where will this go?
If I’m only dreaming I don’t want to know

So I conjured a table and I ordered a beer
And I patiently waited for her to appear
One beer then two beers, and maybe seven or ten
I began to doubt if she’d show, but oh what happened then
She strolled right on in with a friend on her arm
Another stunning lady… a 4-alarm
She quietly admitted she lived, well, not far
Glanced at my empty bottles and added, “Let’s take my car”

The bar was spinning, where will this go?
If I’m only dreaming I don’t want to know

They had a loft with a fully stocked bar
The first girl, reached in my pocket, took the keys to my car
The second girl took the shoes from my feet
Almost before I could find a seat
Well, the rest of what happened could only be once in a lifetime
But there were two, and playing favorites would be a crime
They were in love with each other, and that much was clear
I was just glad to have been invited here

The room was spinning, where will this go?
If I’m only dreaming I don’t want to know

The next morning was no ordinary day
It was, explained to me while my hangover went away
They were in love and together, that observation was true
But they weren’t too happy just being two
The seeds I provided as I rolled on their floor
Had the potential to double their number to four
If I could handle it, I could see my, I mean their, I mean our children grow
The last 24 hours changed the world that I know

The world that I know, the world that I know
The world was spinning, where will this go?

If I’m only dreaming I don’t want to know
If I’m only dreaming I don’t want to know
